Protein-RNA interactions are important in the regulation of cellular metabolism. A key feature
governing the interplay and communication among protein domains and substrate during
molecular recognition and processing is allostery. In this talk, I will dissect the allosteric
mechanisms employed by DEAD-box RNA helicases during substrate (nucleotide and RNA)
recognition and processing. I will further highlight the role of allostery in the regulatory function
of oligomeric CRISPR/Cas surveillance complexes. The presented results are crucial to
understand general principles of molecular communication; and have significant implications
on the design of new drugs based on allosteric dynamics.
